Thruwall Instructions

READ AND SAVE THESE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FORTHRUWALL FAN™ Model TW 108

The ThruWall fan moves air from room to room quietly and efficiently. Simple to install in any frame wall

from 3¾" to 6½" thick. The 10ft. long electrical cord has an on /off switch. A high quality Thermally Protected motor with balanced fan blade moves 200 CFM. Move heated or cooled air between rooms or floors. Also excellent for ventilation!

PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE STARTING INSTALLATION

The ThruWall™ can be mounted in any normal drywall or paneled stud construction wall up to 6½" maximum total thickness.
Depending on your needs, the ThruWall™ can be installed high or low on the wall. Please note that typically warm air rises, thus is found at the ceiling. Conversely, cold air falls and is found near the floor of a room. This is called "stratification". The temperature of the air near the ceiling may be as much as 10°F to 15°F higher than near the floor.
Start by making sure that there are NO studs, water, drain, electrical or other obstructions in the wall where you wish to install the unit. The power cord of the ThruWall is 10ft. long, you may wish to verify that the power cord will reach an electrical 110-120 Volt AC outlet. The use of extension cords is not recommended. The electrical cord is located on the exhaust side of the ThruWall™ fan. Please see the airflow direction label on the housing.

INSTALLATION

The installation of your ThruWall fan is not difficult, but the cutouts must be made accurately and carefully.

In the carton you will find:
• One ABS grille Parts A
• One telescoping metal sleeve to which the fan motor and impeller are mounted with an attached plastic grill Part B.
• One telescoping metal sleeve for the air intake side. Part C.
• One set of plastic wall anchors and screws.

Step 1. Place Part B against the wall with the grille facing outward and mark the cutout to be made with a pencil by tracing the pipe on the outside. Make sure that the power cord is on the downside.

Step 2. Cut out the circular opening with a small drywall saw. Cut inside the pencil line. Take care not to damage the edge of the drywall since you will be installing drywall anchors close to the hole to mount the grill.

Step 3. Project the edge of the cutout onto the inside of the other wall board in three places, approximately 120° apart. Use a small square or a small piece of cardboard that has an exact 90° angle to project the cutout alignment points on the inside of the other wall. The two circular openings must be accurately aligned.

Step 4. Use a small sharp pin or very small drill bit (1/32" or smaller) to punch or drill these three marks to the outside of the other wall.

Step 5. Place the other sleeve, Part C, against the outside of the wall and center its location using the three markers that you have made and trace the outside of the sleeve with a pencil. Cut the circular opening with a small drywall saw. Cut inside the pencil line. Take care not to damage the edge of the drywall since you will be installing drywall anchors close to the hole to mount the grill.

Step 6. Insert Part C into the cutout opening (fan suction side) and snug the flange up against the wall material, making sure that the tabs in the flange are exactly on top.

Step 7. Insert Part B into the cutout opening (fan output side) and snug the grille up against the wall material. Position such that the power cord is on the bottom.

Step 8. Place Part A over the suction side metal sleeve C.

Step 9. Make sure that the power cord strain relief is fully in the slot the grille.

Step 10. Mark the location of the wall anchors. Drill the holes for the anchors with a sharp 3/16" drill bit. Make sure not to push the drill through the wallboard. Gently let it drill through so that the drywall will not crumble. Install wall anchors and screw the grille down snugly. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN.

Step 11. Install the output grill remaining Part A the same way. Make sure that the grille ribs are nicely square with the floor.

Step 12. Route the power cord neatly along the baseboard to the electrical outlet using self adhesive cord control clips or cord control channel available at Home Centers and Hardware stores.

Hardwire installation option:

The ThruWall may be hardwired in the wall and turned on/off via a wall switch. Such installation must conform to all applicable Codes and Standards and must be performed by a qualified and certified electrician.
